Prince Charming has nothing on Michael E!
He contacted me about a custom Disney Princess quilt last year. He was planning ahead for his wife’s birthday – given the number of husbands who holiday shop on December 24th, I was already impressed with this guy. But he also knew his wife’s favorite color (purple) and her favorite Disney princess (Belle)!
Wanting something both traditional and modern, this minimalist-inspired Princess dress design – with Belle taking center stage – was his choice. (For those who don’t know the rest by heart, the other princesses are from top left, clockwise – Snow White, Mulan, Cinderella, Ariel, Rapunzel, Tiana, Aurora and Jasmine.)
Normally, I avoid working with solids, but for this contemporary quilt design they were perfect. Added bonus – the multitude of colors available in solid fabrics meant I could replicate each princess gown exactly!
I chose to mix of grid and curved quilting that shows beautifully, giving lots of movement and depth to each large, single colored area. And large they are – each princess dress was a 16″ block! With the various borders, this quilt ended up 92.5″ x 92.5″. Does anyone else find it as funny as I do that this princess quilt is queen size? 🙂
